For the Eco-Sensitive Child

Our sweet home state is in a major drought, and our Kindermusik class has adapted to this with gusto.  Instead of telling the rain to go away, we sing “Rain, rain, we like rain, all the plants are glad you came.”  It sprinkled yesterday and Kate was ecstatic and started to sing this song immediately.  It cracked me up.

Recalled Toys? Probably Made in China.

I really appreciated this NYT article about toy manufacturing.  Another reason to prefer natural toys over mass-produced ones.

Happy Father’s Day!

I am so thankful that my life is filled with exemplary fathers, my own and the father of my girls.  You guys make me so proud.  Happy Father’s Day to all!

Reality Bites

It’s started to sink in that I am actually working in the fall. Yes, it’s only 4 hours, two days a week, with on-site childcare, but I’ve got 8 classes a week to prepare for and teach in less than two months! I decided on books for the 6th grade lit class this week, and need to start working on prepping for writing. And reading the books I have yet to read for literature. *breathes in bag*

I had a down week, and I hardly touched my camera and I think the two are related. MUST. TAKE. PICTURES.

The week turned up when two old friends spent the night en route to Peru via Houston. All day, Kate’s been saying she wants to go to Peru, and that she can go by herself, she is big, she just needs someone to put her carseat in the plane. Hi-larious.

The Garden Grows

We have a garden, for the first time ever.  Four huge tomato plants, cucumbers, and peppers (green and red) as well as basil, cilantro, rosemary and spearmint.  Aside from the beetle attacks on my basil, everything looks good so far.  We’ll see how it goes come harvest time.

Made It

We’re home, and the stomach bug hasn’t spread, and I’m glad for those little graces.  My heart is heavy today for Zion Church, for sin, for the future, for the present.  I know, the Christian’s hope can never fail, and I believe, only help my unbelief.

Please Pray

I’m travelling with the girls this week and Kate’s got a stomach virus.  Please pray for her healing and the timing of its transfer to Lexi (and/or I) as we need to fly home Saturday.  While you’re at it, pray Lexi sleeps in past 3:45-4:45 CST, too.
