Offer Accepted!

The seller accepted our offer! I guess I’ll tell you a bit more about the house. It’s 4 bedrooms, 1 bath (~1400 sq. feet) in an urban neighborhood with a decent fenced-in yard. My family has lived in rural or suburban houses as long as I can remember, so I’ve never lived somewhere where there was an alley to put out the trash or the mailman delivered right to the door. It was built in 1942, but it had HVAC put in a few years ago so it has natural gas heat and central air conditioning. The original wood floors are restored in the living room, dining room, hallway and two downstairs bedrooms and the rest of the house has either new berber carpet or new vinyl. It has a galley kitchen that the seller agreed to let us work on before closing, which is a huge blessing. The location is about 3 miles from the lower school campus and 5 miles from the upper school campus of the school where Mike works and less than 2 miles from the James River. We’ll be so much closer to the cultural offerings of the city. We don’t own it yet, but we’re on the way.

  3. Yaaaaay!!! That ROCKS!!!!! It sounds so awesome!!!

I totally loved living in an urban neighborhood in NOLA. It just felt more community-like than suburbia where everyone holes up in their own little universes.

This place sounds like it is so perf!

  4. Pretty much the only inside pictures we took were to show my dad the kitchen, which is the only room that needs significant help!

  5. Awesome! I’d love to have a house in an urban neighborhood. Are there any shops, stores, libraries, etc. within walking distance?

  6. congrats, kristen.. i’m sure you are looking forward to spreading out a little bit with your sprawling family :)

  7. Allison,

The house is less than a mile from a really neat coffee and ice cream shop and cafe. It’s a mile and a half to the local library. Grocery stores, Target, etc. are a little less than 4 miles away. So, not quite a walking neighborhood, but not too bad, either. There aren’t a lot of grocery stores in more urban neighborhoods!

  8. Wow. Congratulations on that cute little house! :)

  9. Your description reminds me a lot of Asheville! I think this is a great investment for y’all, besides being a great place to live. We’ll might give you a call when we’re in Richmond in Apr- most of our day there is planned (baseball, Monument Row, etc) but I’ll put in a request to drop by!

  10. Congrats! Sounds excellent!
