Waiting for September

August has never been my favorite month. It’s hot, for starters, and by August I am usually tired of the heat. All four of us start school next week, so we’re in a crunch with that, and also trying to get rid of the immobile Volvos and acquire a new used car for Michael to drive in the next week so we can return the car we have been borrowing for several months. (Thanks again, S. family!) So, it’s crazy around here.

September will come and the cars will be straightened out and school will be going and autumn will come slowly and life will seem much more normal. At least, that’s what I am telling myself.

  1. *smiles* Yes, that’s what I keep telling myself too. But I know there always will be unexpected problems to be solved.

    So what’s normal?

  2. So the second of the twin volvos has given up the ghost?

Transitions are always a bit bumpy. Even then they are exciting.

  3. so….but before the volvos died, did they last a long time? how many miles? we are getting ready to buy a very used car for Michael, and several of our friends are older-volvo lovers. Would love any insight you have… :)

  4. If I was going to get a very used volvo, I’d get a 240 ONLY. Our two 740s both died at just less than 200k (timing belt issues, though they were relatively well maintained, saw volvo people, etc.) We could have rebuilt the engines: not worth it. Repairs on the A/C are really costly because of the placement of it. Anyhow, 240s run longer and are more reliable and cheaper to fix. I had an 82 240 in college that my parents bought for $400 and it ran for many years before they sold it to someone local and they still see it tooling around town.

  5. this is helpful!! thanks!!!!
