I wish I could program my iTunes and iPod to shuffle everything but albums. Is there a way to do this? I have the iPod shuffling everything, but I like listening to albums in the way they were intended…

I know you can do it in iTunes. Go to Edit->Preferences->Advanced, and there’s an option to shuffle by Song or Album.
It seems like there must be something in iPod, but I still don’t have one… I think I jumped on the FreeIpod craze too late.
That’s not quite what I am looking for.
If I select a playlist on my iPod, I want that shuffled.
If I select an artist on my iPod, I want that shuffled.
If I select an album on my iPod, I want that played in order.
On my iPod, you can shuffle albums, where it plays an album in order. You can also just take the shuffle off when you want to play an album.
When I listen to an album, I just turn shuffle off on my iPod. Perhaps not the wishful solution you were hoping for, but it works. And it takes only a few seconds, so it’s not that much of a bother.
I wonder if there’s something you could do with smart playlits to do what you want….
Hey Kristen,
iTunes 5 was released today, and it has smart shuffle, which lets you “adjust random playback to hear what you want.”
Might be just what you were asking for!
