Playful Parenting by Lawrence Cohen (8) Written by a psychologist who works as a play therapist, this book is a great reminder of how important it is to connect with your children and also has some great strategies for working through problems through play. Yeah, he’s a secular psychologist and there’s things he says I disagree with, but overall I found the book incredibly helpful. (Borrowed from the library.)
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (9) I am so excited for the new book… (From the bookshelf.)
Mystical Paths by Susan Howatch (8) Another great Starbridge novel. This time we’re treated to a more conventional male seminarian as a narrator, and I can find nothing to complain about! (Borrowed from the library.)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (9) Rereading this was a special treat. There were so many little details I forgot. I can’t wait to find out what Harry got on his O.W.L.s! (From the bookshelf.)
I’m going to guess that Harry didn’t end up getting that ‘T’ in Potions.
Just wanted to mention that you can preorder the new Harry Potter book until 12pm Friday the 15th at Barnes and Noble for all those procrastinators or broke people (like me) out there. I wasn’t going to preorder, but then I remembered I could get the book for $17.99 instead of $29.99, so I went ahead and preordered.
Playful Parenting was really helpful and encouraging me the past couple of months while we’ve been going through major family and life transitions. Sure, there are things that I filter out and dismiss. . . But it really helped inspire me to stop the “work” that kept loading me down, and spend time playfully with my boys. Their giggles really help put everything into perspective.
I tend to prefer quiet snuggles or reading aloud to the boys, rather than playing. . . Feeling the push from that book to really be playful with them helped me out of my comfort zone in a way that was great for reconnecting with them. . .
