Works for Me Wednesday

I have never done this before, but what the heck…

We love books and we want our kids to love books. Paperback books are cheap, but they wear quickly. I use my trusty packaging tape to reinforce the spine and edges and they are so much sturdier! I learned this trick as a teacher. I’ll try to post pictures later if anyone is interested.

  1. I am going to have to try this in my classroom!

  2. Great idea, especially for those books that come from the book clubs and are very flimsy!

  3. While we have also taught the boys the right way to care for books, we have approached kids’ books with the attitude that they are to be used and that some will need to be tossed or replaced along the way. It’s been gratifying to see them “read” or play with a book from the time they were very little.

I have a very low opinion of British book publishing after living in Kyiv. The quality of binding is so poor on most books, and we found in very frustrating.

  4. Nice, especially since I hit Half Price books every week and some of those people do not take care of their books like me!!!!

  5. I do that same thing. Even our “hard” books for the kids have just gotten worn down and I just tape them back up. Good as new – almost :-)

  6. Well, I don’t mind driving for a church, but 700 miles *might* be pushing it. ;-)

I like that your church has the service in the afternoon. It would allow for some nice family time and really make it feel like the whole day was centered on worship. I always felt like morning worship was so that you could “get it out of the way” and do other things. I’m aware that is just my opinion and perspective, and it largely comes from being in churches with young, immature, yuppie, Christians. My father likes morning worship because it, “puts God first” in our day.

Oh well, I guess it is all in your perspective. I’m glad that your family has found a church to tie into. I will too, someday.

  7. Great tip! We LOVE books at our house too and they are constantly falling apart. I’m definitely going to implement this. Thanks for sharing!

  8. I do this too, not only at home, but also at school. With tax dollars for books so limited, every book has to be made to last as long as possible.

  9. We have also used contact paper to cover the whole book on my daughter’s books that we knew she’d read again and again.

  10. Oh yeah…and Rocks in My dryer is a fun blog…I’ve been visiting/lurking there for a bit now.

  11. Great idea! Thanks for sharing & welcome to WFMW! =)
