  1. How did The Second Coming compare to The Moviegoer? The latter has to be one of my favorite books read over the last five years.

  2. I enjoyed the Moviegoer a great deal, but The Second Coming was less esoteric without being less personal and I adored it. Here’s what I wrote when I finished it:

“I loved this novel and couldn’t put it down. The quirky, and yet oddly believable characters, and their fascinating takes on both the extraordinary and mundane happenings of their own lives. It didn’t hurt that the settings were Southern ones, of great familiarity in their own ways. Entertaining and yet deep and thought provoking, I know that more than the Moviegoer, The Second Coming will propel me towards reading the rest of the Percy canon. 9/10”

  3. Lovely list, Kristen. Even though we’ve never met, I know we could occupy several hours at a table with some good beverage (tea is my choice), scones and booktalk.

Reading your list makes me sigh for the authors I love (Berry, Trollope, Undset, Chesterton to name a few) and interested in ones I have yet to read. The Moviegoer is on my shelf.

I love your wrap up format, particularly the Please Don’t Read category.
